November is ‘Bring a Friend to Volunteer’ Month

A recent Coffee Morning for hard working volunteers, was held in Talla nan Ros. People from across the community who are involved with Caberfeidh Horizons came together for a catchup and to share their experiences.

Helen Armour, General Manager of Caberfeidh Horizons, Kingussie, thanked everyone for all that they do to support this vibrant social enterprise. The project presently relies on over fifty active volunteers, ranging in age from school age to over eighty. They have a variety of roles in the three shops: the Bookshop, Charity Shop and Community Hub. Volunteers work half-day shifts to operate the shops six days a week. Others help with the trainee programme or community workshops and activities. Some volunteers work shorter sessions bringing special skills to the project.

Helen explained that helping with all the re-use/recycle initiatives, through the three shops, is moving Caberfeidh towards being self-sustainable, enabling development of our trainees programme, helping to cover all the running costs and also continuing to support isolated or vulnerable people in our community in whatever way we can.

Helen Armour was delighted to launch “Bring a friend to volunteer” month.

She asked everyone to make November a time to bring even more people into the team of helpers.

There are so many interesting opportunities available through volunteering at Caberfeidh.

As Helen explained “You probably know someone who you think may enjoy volunteering but isn’t too sure whether it’s for them or not. So why not bring him or her with you next time you’re in and work together, show them what good fun it can be? We’ve found that two people working together can form great friendships and are a great support to one another.”

“And for those out there who haven’t got a close contact then please phone 01540 66100 and speak to Sarah Potter who will be very pleased to arrange a taster volunteer session for you.”

Helen also announced that two open days are planned for the 17th and 18th of November to invite people to look round the Hub and the Bookshop, showcasing all the facilities that are available to the community. Local groups already meet at Caberfeidh and enjoy the variety of opportunities available.
